Now that the Iowa Caucuses are over, it’s time to focus on supporting the commissioning efforts for the USS Iowa. With that in mind, the crew of the PCU and the NOSC (Navy Operational Support Center) Des Moines have put together a very comprehensive list of public events that will be taking place throughout 2020.
The crew of the Iowa is sending five sailors to the Cedar Rapids area over the Thanksgiving holidays for a namesake visit.
On October 14, 2019, the official dedication of the Iowa Submarine Highway was conducted. A long time project of shipmate and Iowa Base Commander David Farran of Waverly, Iowa finally came to fruition.

The ship’s sponsor, Christie Vilsack, and the Commissioning Committee have been informed that the Keel-Laying Ceremony for the USS Iowa submarine will take place at Quonset Point, Rhode Island on Tuesday August 20, 2019.
There will be a USS Iowa (BB-61) exhibit dedication ceremony at the Sullivan Brothers Iowa Veterans Museum and Grout Museum of Science & History on June 13, 2019. As a legacy warship, our committee will be represented.
